Help
The Churches in Dominica. Donate your used instrument.During
the initial stages of JGO MINISTRIES, I was very interested
in starting a program that would assist needy churches in Dominica
to obtain musical instruments. These instruments would ultimately
engage the youth in meaningful leisure activity with the potential
to create a musical career.

I have
first-hand experience in dealing with delinquent young persons.
During my tenure as a Police Officer, I was confronted with
many cases that involved young persons who resorted to criminal
activities. Most of these juveniles came from broken and abusive
homes. I know what it is like to live in an abusive home since
the issue of abuse has confronted me personally. It is for this
reason I have a passion for under- privileged children and young
persons. Ǿ@
Looking into the eyes of these children, a burning desire for
love and attention can be seen. They are carrying with them
a void, an emptiness that needs to be addressed. When these
needs are not met they resort to violence and become a menace
to society. They are considered rejects and thrown into jail.
The system is not to be blamed here because the law of the land
has to be upheld. How do we pacify the youths’ feelings of rejection?
What can be done to encourage a sense of well being, appreciation
and love in a young person’s life? |
The Church
is an institution assisting in addressing these needs. There
is no denying that the Church plays a pivotal role in the upbringing
of a child. How many of the children in Dominica are actively
involved in Church? How many of them leave the Church? I believe
the question that should be asked is why? Ǿ@
In Dominica, there are many Churches that do not have musical
instruments such as a drum set, keyboard and guitars. The tambourine
is still the popular instrument being used. However, these Churches
are very effective witnesses to our young people. Unfortunately,
that great effort is short lived; young people need excitement
even in the church. Due to the lack of interest in the church,
the young men and women go out to be entertained or engage in
criminal activities. This situation is like a vicious cycle.
The kids go right back to the streets.

I visited
two churches in Dominica during my short stay and saw a huge
void in the church. I saw that the youth were idle; some were
distracted and somewhat disinterested in the sermon. The worship
was less exciting because there was no instrument to accompany
the vocals. Many of the youth may not be able to read the Bible
but they may be gifted in playing an instrument or may have
a desire to play an instrument. The males in particular are
the real victims as the women sing, dance and do other creative
things whilst the males remain idle. With your help we can help
give one used or new Drum Set, or an instrument of your choice
to a church.
